History and Heritage
Greene King was founded in 1799, but the remains of a Medieval maltings have recently been uncovered next to the brew house, indicating that a brewery was in situ long before then. Added to which, the history of brewing in Bury goes back at least as far as 1086!
Brewery Tours and Tutored Tastings
If you’ve ever wondered what malt is; or pondered the difference between ale and lager; if you’re not quite sure why cask beer is a ‘fresh’ product; or if you would be interested to know how much barley it takes to make a pint of beer; and if you love a bit of social history and load of great anecdotes; then you will love the tour of the brewery! The tour includes, weather permitting, a stop on the roof, which gives a fantastic view of Bury St Edmunds and the surrounding countryside.
