A Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds Production
Dangerous Corner
By J B Priestley
Directed by Colin Blumenau, designed by Libby Watson, lighting designed by Emma Chapman

‘Life’s got a lot of dangerous corners...it can have - if you don’t choose your route well.’

Young, rich and carefree, some of the beautiful people of pre-war england settle down to an evening’s celebration of their own success. Then a chance and ill considered remark about a cigarette box leads first to a gradual breakdown in ease, then manners, next decorum and finally civility. The evening fractures as, one after another, some dangerous secrets are painfully exposed. As the truths spill out, suicide, betrayal and worse are the subjects for discussion. The perfect lives begin to crumble and the cost of success becomes only too evident.

‘What makes Dangerous Corner durable is Priestley’s ingenuity… it uses a thriller format to explore the ever-pertinent question of how much truth we can take in our private lives…behind the mask of 1930s upper-class respectability lay a world of reckless hedonism’ Michael Billington
