Bungay is primarily built around the ruins of an ancient Norman castle and is partially surrounded by the River Waveney.

Feudal Lord Hugh Bigod built the original castle in 1165. All that remains today are the foundations up to the level of the ground floor windows. The castle now boasts a visitor centre with a café and gift shop.
Visitors can explore the upper River Waveney Valley by Canadian canoes, kayaks and rowing boats.
Saint Peter´s Brewery and Visitor Centre (at nearby St. Peter South Elmham) is a unique working brewery with a restaurant and bar housed in a medieval moated hall dating from the 13th C. The visitor's centre provides a reception for visitors and include a brewing exhibition.
The Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum is set in the picturesque Waveney Valley at Flixton. It was founded in 1972 and covers over 7 acres. The museum features more than 50 historic aircraft and a unique collection of memorabilia, uniforms, models, instruments, equipment, paintings and personal collections. |
